If You Are What You Eat, You Are Awesome (New Mexico)

MesaVerde, and subsequently the Seattle-style coffee haven of Durango, put an end to our tenur in Colorado, so we moved South to Santa Fe, a city that is suprisingly small (64,000 people) and spread out, full of adobe architecture like the above, which makes you feel like you're in Super Mario Brothers 2. Matt has a family friend there, a crunchy middle-aged lady who owns a landscaping company (but curiously did not go to work either day we stayed at her house, despite it being what I imagine is high landscapin' season) and lives the 360-Organic lifestyle pretty hard. The bathroom smelled, well, pretty earthy, but the rest of the house smelled like patchouli. It was a beautiful house, though. Here's the outside...

In the main town square we saw a Native American flea market, which means that bad turquoise jewelry from 5, maybe 6 wholesalers and scattered among 30, maybe 40 Indian vendors, was abundant.

And then we saw Our Lady of Santa Fe, an old Spanish missionary cathedral.

Of note was the tacky, enormous alterpiece with St. Rosa, the beatified mariachi...

And a killer motto, "Love One Another Constantly," which sort of sounds like the slogan for a capital campaign, plastered all over the place...

We ate red chile sauce, which along with green chile sauce, is a local specialty. I had it on burritos. You remember this stuff for days, in a very real sense, if you get my drift.

Matt rocked out in Tactotown...

And finally, a trip to New Mexico's own chain burger place, Blake's Lotaburger. Burgers were thin and inferior, but the motto, "If You Are What You Eat, You Are Awesome," is the best I've heard of in the burger world. I give Blake a B grade. Edible.
